Álfadans

Over the weekend of October 19th-21st A.S. XXXXII the Shire of Klakavirki had the honour of playing host to Their Excellencies Barún Pól and Baroness Caitriona, Viceroy and Vicereine of Insulae Draconis at Álfadans at a summerhouse in Varmahlíð near Akureyri in northern Iceland.

On the Friday Their Excellencies were given a tour around northern Iceland before arriving on site to a meal and a long session in the hot tub while the sky above danced in green and purple.

On Saturday the day started with a class on Mediaeval and Renaissance Cryptography given by Lady Ysabella-Maria Vasquez de Granada. This was followed a mid-morning celebration of His Excellency's birthday, complete with dancing. After lunch Jacquelyna de Bellmont led more dancing, then His Excellency gave a class on heavy combat techniques.

At court before dinner Their Excellencies, sitting in lieu of Their Majesties, presented Awards of Arms to Hrútur Hrafnsson (in absentia) and Sóla of Eyjafjörður. They aslo presented tokens of thanks to those gentles involved in the organisation and running of the event, and further gifts to those for whom this was their first court. Jacquelyna de Bellmont was presented with a scroll as winner of the Arts and Sciences competition.

After court Their Excellencies and the gentles of the shire sat down to a great feast cooked by Ekaterina and Guðbrandur:

Meat and Vegetable Pasties
Roasted Salmon with Wine Sauce
Vegetable Gruel
Roman Honey Cake with Ice Cream

Flatbread with Smoked Trout
Lamb with Pepper Sauce
Cabbage Chowder
Crustless Siennese Tart

Slátur with Sweet Mashed Turnips
Chicken with Rice and Almonds
Green Pea Pottage
Apple and Berry Pie with Cream

This was accompanied by the telling of many tales by Estelle and by music by Ólafur, both of whom were presented with ribbons signifying their entry into the Minstrel's Guild. The evening drew to a close with more dancing, some of it accompanied by Lady Ysabella. Naturally, gentles then retired to the hot tub until late into the night.
