The latest results from the minitourneys held at fighter practices

January 8th 2008

At the first fencing session of the year was Alligator Island, fought with epées. This was a first blood tourney, with the fencers confined to a 3m by 3m square 'island'. Any fencer stepping out of this area was deemed to have fallen into the water and have been eaten by the alligators. It was run as a round robin with each fencer facing the same opponent three times in all.
The final scores were as follows: Jacquelyna 1, Ekaterina 1, Ólafur 4 and Þórmóður 4 and Hrafngunnur 5. Only one fencer - Ólafur - was eaten by the alligators.

At the final fencing session of the year was a bridge tourney with rapiers rather than epées. The aim of each fencer was to touch the wall behind their opponent with the tip of their blade - killing the opponent was not absolutely necessary. Any fencer who stepped outside the 'bridge' was considered to have fallen into the moat and drowned. The tourney was run as a double round robin, each fencer facing the same opponent twice, once at each end of the bridge. One point was scored for the first fencer to touch the far wall.
The final scores were as follows: Jacquelyna 0, Ekaterina 5, Ólafur 7 and Þórmóður 12. It produded two amusing highlights - a double kill where both fencers were sitting, and one instance where both fencers scored points as they decided to rush past each other rather than try to fight!
